We Beg to Differ….

February 15, 2010

Oh, Lord. According to Billboard magazine the sexiest song ever is …….. Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical.” As reported by Reuters, Billboard came up with a list of the 50 most popular songs about sex just in time for Valentine’s Day. Each song earned points according to how well it performed on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart from 1958 until January of this year. Because “Physical” spent 10 weeks at No. 1, it earned the honor of the sexiest song ever.

To which we say ….. really?

Here’s the Top 10 songs, according to Billboard:

1. “Physical” – Olivia Newton-John

2. “Tonight’s The Night” – Rod Stewart

3. “I’ll Make Love To You” – Boyz II Men

4. “Too Close” – Next

5. “Let’s Get It On” – Marvin Gaye

6. “Hot Stuff” – Donna Summer

7. “Do That To Me One More Time” – Captain and Tennille

8. “Like A Virgin” – Madonna

9. “Kiss You All Over” – Exile

10. “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?” – Rod Stewart

Now, some might say, what about this song or that song? According to the Billboard release the songs selected were chosen because the subject matter of each song is directly related to sex. If we ignore the obvious requirements of  Billboard’s list (and some of the lyrics)  here’s a list of songs, both romantic and sexy, we’d put on our list, in no particular order:

“All I Want Is You” – U2

“Yellow” – Coldplay

“Crash Into Me” – Dave Matthews Band

“Bolero” – Maurice Ravel

“Claire de Lune” – Claude Debussy

“Your Body is a Wonderland” – John Mayer

“Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” – Sergei Rachmaninoff

“The Secret Marriage” – Sting

“In Your Eyes” – Peter Gabriel

“Born To Run” – Bruce Springsteen

“Unchained Melody” – U2’s cover version
